"A Visit with Nick Dasher," by Roy Hudson
’Twas three days before Christmas and all fans of Kris Kringle
Read Roy Hudson’s Now, Dasher, for their Amazon Kindle.
Thirteen years in the life of a kid-loving bloodsucker;
If he sees you beneath mistletoe, you’d better not pucker.
Unlike other sappy vampires, he drinks human blood
And drops their corpses to the ground with a loud, heavy thud.
His history is rich, from Colonial days,
His wife was tried as a witch for his vampire ways.
He met Paul Revere, and nearly made Paul his feast,
And fired the Shot Heard Round the World, the old beast.
Despite his shortcomings, he has a soft spot
For Christmas and gives toys to kids (quite a lot).
After 9/11, he almost quits his yearly journey
But it's saved by the Grim Reaper and the Easter Bunny.
He meets other legends, all vampires like him.
They come out at night, or when the lights are all dim.
A vampire hunter comes after them ’cause
He doesn't believe in a vampire Claus.
Nick Dasher fights evil, especially within,
When he finds out that God still takes care of him.
Desperate for the love of his wife’s reincarnation,
He puts all his hope in that she’s his salvation.
Things don’t go well for our “jolly old elf.”
