Roy Hudson is a full-time writer from Augusta, GA. He enjoys reading classic speculative fiction and horror, as well as humor, genres in which he also writes. As a student at University of South Carolina-Aiken, Roy worked on The Pacer Times and had a poem published in their literary magazine, Broken Ink. Roy has self-published a novel, The Odic Touch, a serial novel, Now, Dasher, and a collection of short stories, Halloween Tales. Since signing with Firefly & Wisp, his stories have appeared in two anthologies: 13 Tales of the Paranormal and Thorn of Death. His novel Relic is no longer in print, but is undergoing edits to be re-released at an uncertain future date.
4/21/2018 - Wow... it's been almost a full month since I've updated my website, which means I'm four weeks behind on my resolution. I've had a few ideas for stories (inspired by local events), but nothing that's stuck. If I'm to catch up, I'd better write those stories... and maybe a couple of poems or something...
3/22/2018 - I missed World Poetry Day!? I guess that's what I get for going a day without social media... Still, I need something for Week 13, and writing about missed opportunities is a good excuse.
3/16/2018 - I should've mentioned the Smashwords.com sale again before it ended, but I did not... and as such, I didn't sell much. But I had an idea for my next written work, if I can find the motivation to DO it.
Also, I wrote a haiku for Week 12. Here it goes:
"I read 'Will You Still
Love Me If I Wet The Bed?'
I did. She doesn't."
(I'm not saying that's WHY, but it is a correlation!)
3/06/2018 - I forgot to mention it here, but from the 4th (this past Sunday) until the 10th, Smashwords.com is having a sale for Read An Ebook Week. You can get The Odic Touch for 50% off with coupon code RE50, as well as my two holiday books (Halloween Tales and Now, Dasher) for free with code RE100. Get them here: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/royhudson
2/18/2018 - Happy birthday to my sister, Ashleah! And on an unrelated note, I thought up a joke today. Or, rather, I thought up a question, and my brain provided a punchline. I'm counting it as part of the #WritAWeek2018 challenge. It's in the blog. Check it out!
2/12/2018 - I just wrote a new story, even though I wrote a haiku yesterday. This one counts as a new week in my #WritAWeek2018 challenge, I guess... I was late with #6, and I believe we're starting Week 8 now, so... check out the new story in the blog.
2/11/2018 - Random Haiku inspired by real life:
"Good news, ev'ryone!
From the doc's mouth to my ears:
It's not the flu! YES."
2/08/2018 - #WritAWeek2018 #6 Another #RandomHaiku, inspired by a 50+ year old song:
"If you come to San
Francisco, winter time will
1/29/2018 - #WritAWeek2018 #5 Random Haiku:
"Dear Romeo- It's
Easy to be my fool when
In love. Yours, Fortune."
In case you're wondering, Writ-A-Week 2018 #1, 2, & 4 are in the blog. I had an idea for another... something, but it's escaped me. Hopefully it'll be back in time for Week 6! That, or I'll stop stalling and get started rewriting and sharing those long-forgotten Long Ridge Writers Group stories...
1/22/2018 - I found some stuff that had been hiding in plain sight for the past decade or so... It's my Long Ridge Writers Group correspondence course binder, with the text book, my old stories from 2001-2002, and notes from author/tutor Taffy Cannon. Perhaps I'll change some details to fit the times (and fictionalize the names) and share a couple of these rediscovered stories in the blog. More info to come...
1/15/2018 - #WritAWeek2018 #3 Random Haiku:
"Loved The Cable Guy's
'Kill the babysitter' twist.
The film, not so much."
1/07/2018 - It just occurred to me that aside from the generic "get back in shape" promise I make myself every year, I haven't set any New Year's Resolutions for 2018... and since it's been a week since New Year's Eve and I haven't changed much of anything, I guess it means I have no resolutions. I'd like to do something writing-related... More on that in the blog...
1/02/2018 - Whoa. I forgot all about Smashwords.com's end-of-the-year sale. As such, I did not sufficiently advertise my books as being on sale until now that the sale is over... But there is good news! I wrote a new "New Year's" story today. It's a little late, but it beats sharing "Eve's New Year" for the fourth year in a row... It's in the blog, so enjoy!
12/25/2017 - Merry Christmas! Today starts the Smashwords.com sale on The Odic Touch and Now, Dasher for half-price with the coupon code SEY50. There's still a couple of hours left in this Christmas day on the Eastern time zone, so... go get yours! I hope you all had the happiest of holidays!
12/22/2017 - I wrote three new connected Haiku this morning to announce the upcoming year-end half-off sale on Smashwords.com. I'll put them in my blog, but I doubt I'll share the news with social media until Sunday night. I would like to make a couple full-price sales of Now, Dasher before Christmas day, but it's Christmastime. I should be happy to save readers money by asking them to wait another three days!
12/20/2017 - Happy birthday to my mom! She turns 69 today... which got a good laugh out of my perverted sister. I wrote a blog dedicated to mom and her dad, whose birthday was also 12/20, so check that out if you'd like.
12/19/2017 - I can't stop tinkering with "A Moonlit Christmas," the 2017 holiday story. I keep adding to the ending... One of these days, I'll fit in everything I want without it seeming bloated. One day.
12/14/2017 - In case you missed it, I did indeed post the new story "A Moonlit Christmas" in the blog. Check it out!
It's also time to start pimping Now, Dasher again. Get it here:
Also, from Christmas Day to New Year's Day, the Dasher saga will be half-price on Smashwords with the coupon code SEY50. Christmas will technically be over, but if you can stand the wait, you can get the book for only $1.50! (I'm only announcing this in advance here, so if you visit my web site, count yourself lucky.) Find it on Smashwords here:
12/08/2017 - National Novel Writing Month has been over for a week now, and I didn't finish. I made some progress on the novella I worked on, which turned out to be one of many stories featuring werewolf Bobby Brinkley and vampire survivor Whitney Turner... Speaking of which, I'm working on a holiday story starring the Moon-Lit characters now. Hopefully I'll be able to post it in the blog before the end of the weekend. Stay tuned!
10/29/2017 - Happy (almost) Halloween! Even though I previously hadn't written a new Halloween story in at LEAST five years, I've got a new one in the blog. Check it out! Have fun celebrating Halloween Tuesday... or even leading up to it.
9/10/2017 - Evidently, today is both World Suicide Prevention Day AND Grandparents Day... so I called my grandma to tell her, "Things get better." (Kidding about that last part, though I DID give her a call for Grandparents Day!) Speaking of World Suicide Prevention Day, in case you missed it, I posted a blog on 8/31 giving my review of Our Write Side's Ambrosia, which benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I recommend it. Now I think I need to write something incorporating both grandparents and suicide prevention before the end of the day...
8/31/2017 - Well, it's my turn to host an upcoming poetry anthology's blog tour! There has been stress in my life keeping me from my blogging duties, with the death of my aunt and other family members receiving a grim prognosis. I'll probably try to channel my grief in a future blog, but for today, I'm reviewing Our Write Side's Ambrosia, a poetry anthology whose royalties benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I recommend the book, not only for its realistic perspectives on depression, but also for the donation to a great charity. Check it out in my blog, and thanks for reading.
8/21/2017 - Happy Eclipse Day! I hope your eclipse glasses are the real deal and don't melt your eyeballs. I didn't get my hands on any NASA-approved glasses, so I'll be watching it on TV... or live-stream online. If you are outside, take care.
8/7/2017 - I didn't do so well with the Christmas in July sale, but I'm not letting it get me down, because my birthday is Friday, and I have another offer. For those of you with Facebook accounts, you can donate money toward my fundraiser to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF, a free-speech charity I believe in) up until Saturday, August 12th, 2017, at 11:59 pm ET. If I raise my goal (currently set at $200, though I may decrease it for the sake of meeting a goal), I plan to make my three self-published books free for a month on Smashwords, AND post some stuff on the blog I'd never shared before... for better or for worse! I'm hoping to get back into the writing groove soon so I can release something NEW... or, at the very least, edit something old so I can finally publish another book. Below is the link to the Facebook fundraiser. And thanks for reading!
The donation area may make you think that $20 is the minimum, but if you click "Other," you can donate whatever you can afford. Every dollar helps! Thanks again!
7/25/2017 - Only six days left to get my three smashwords.com e-books, including Now, Dasher (to help celebrate Christmas in July), Halloween Tales, and The Odic Touch for half-off with coupon code SSW50!
7/10/2017 - I've taken the next step toward becoming a regularly paid author: I've created my own Patreon page. Just don't search for it yet, because I haven't FINISHED creating it yet. No video nor rewards yet... I do have some ideas, though. I'll share them in my blog.
6/29/2017 - Well... I messed up. I accidentally deleted all the text from the home page. I'm starting over. I guess I've lost all the News Updates from 2017 so far, as well as my links to Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/royhudsonauthor), Twitter (https://twitter.com/Readneck_Roy), and tumblr (https://awesomeroyhudson.tumblr.com/). Speaking of tumblr, I just posted a new image/poem on there... bringing my total posts to three. ;-) Check it out!
